First: the bad. I don't mean to complain, but I have been suffering from some hardcore allergies the past couple months. I am not sure what exactly I'm allergic to, but it has woken me up just about every other night with a runny nose, sneezing, and a severely itchy throat. The symptoms are worst after the rain which leads me to believe it is an allergic reaction to mold or fungus present in our rickety old (built in the year 1925 and hardly maintained because it was used as a rental) house. I have yet to find a homeopathic remedy that works for me, but I haven't given up hope. Does anyone have these problems and if so, what- if anything- works for you?
Besides allergies curbing my regular sleep cycles and thus destroying my motivation for routine exercise, all has been well for Sailor's Omen and myself.
Early last year I had submitted an application to be a vendor at the Saint Augustine Saturday Farmer's Market. Located in front of the amphitheater on Anastasia Island, it is the most popular open-air market among locals and tourists alike with a plethora of farm-fresh organic groceries as well as a long list of extremely talented bakers and makers.
For months I have been keeping in touch with the head of the market and finally a break! Laurie from Salt Run Designs (beautiful oxidized brass nautical-themed jewelry) has taken January off and I have been asked to set up in her absence! I have been told there are no more vendors being accepted into the market for the rest of the year, so I feel very lucky and grateful for being given a chance to display! It is still unclear if I will be given a spot on a regular basis or if I will be used as a substitute. I will be sure to keep you updated.
Why stay updated? Each week, my Facebook friends get a special message for a discount to use at the Sailor's Omen booth at the market. And with Valentine's Day approaching, you could very well get a great deal on a nice little present for your loved one!
I have been regularly updating my etsy shop every week with bits and baubles from the new spring line. I'm up to over 130 active listings total. I began adding dreamcatchers, modern dreamcatcher-alternatives, and keychains to the mix of necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
My personal favorite are the modern dream-catcher alternatives. I sold my first one to a lady at the market who told me she was going to hang it from her rear-view mirror- something I had not thought of doing! I love when people take something I've made and use it for a purpose I had not imagined. It makes me smile and happy to be reminded of the world and ingenuity outside myself.
I have more to fun news to share, but I'll wait for the next post to do so.
I'll leave a few little hints for you, though:
+spring lookbook & photoshoot behind the scenes
+editorial collective
+and even a DIY!
Thanks for reading!
<3 you,
S.O. Ashley
